Goodbye DC...

I know what you want. You want pictures of Belgrade. We've been hear a month and a half already you say, and still no pictures! Well, I have good news. I am finally ready to update the blog. However, we have to play a little catch up first. How could I pass over the best of the summer? One of the perks of moving overseas is that lots of family came to visit before you leave. As you can see from earlier posts, Shelley and Laura's families visited us for their Spring Break along with Grandma Pam.  Then Grandma and Grandpa Burton came for Easter. Then Summer and Adam came in for Fox's birthday (really Summer had a conference in the area but don't tell that to Fox), and Grandma and Grandpa Burton came back for Eden's. (Who's coming to Belgrade for my birthday?)
Needless to say their birthdays were especially memorable this year. Abigail and Eli had never been to DC before, so we visited some of our favorite stomping grounds. Eden and Eli were pretty inseperable (we'll never let them live it down that they're kissing cousins).
Fox wanted a dinosaur birthday party. The highlight of the party was excavating and assembling dinosaur (and mammoth)fossil kits from clay. The kids absolutely loved it. And Fox's main gift was the polar express (in June? Yes, this boy has been asking for this train set since he was three--and Andrew has been begging to make his wish come true just as long).
Thanks for coming to hang out with us for a week. No matter how long you stay, it's never long enough!

For Eden's party we did a few different things. She loved the excevation kits so this time we got a similar archeology kit with Native American artifacts. We had a tea party- Grandpa put in a lot of effort on the flower shaped veggie tray. For her cake, she wanted everyone to decorate their own. I think everyone had a good time creating their very own masterpiece.
It's no surprise that Eden got a teepee for her birthday. She loves it of course. I don't think that her love for Native American things is a passing phase. And that's just fine with me.
We look like we're having fun in those paddle boats don't we? The kids have wanted to do these since we moved to DC and we finally relented for Eden's birthday. Boy, it was hot. We lasted 15 min and returned them 30 mintues early. Also, my lifejacket smelled. At least we checked that off our list.

Stay tuned for our first post on life in Belgrade.
