The mice will play! Andrew had to travel to Lithuania this week for several days while I stayed in Vienna with the kids. We had a couple of outings that were a lot of fun. On Tuesday we checked out Grinzing, a small village just north of Vienna that has an old town feel. It was really quaint and pretty. We started off the day discovering a new park- not hard to do here. Eden and Fox loved this swing. "Do an underdog!,"Eden says.

Right next to the park was this gorgeous church. This picture is not doing it justice.

We've heard from several people how good the restaurant Figl's is so we decided to give it a try. If you can't tell by Fox's expression, they were right. This huge pretzel sandwhich was amazing!

Then we started walking through the town. Grinzing is very popular for its heurigers- outdoor wine bars. This is the entrance to one.

It was a really beautiful place to visit. I hope we get to go back.

On the grounds where we live there are a lot of cherry trees. Mr Keller, the grounds manager, has been cutting down branches for everyone. We've spent a lot of time picking cherries this week (and even more time pitting them!). After pounds and pounds of cherries, 1 cherry pie experiement, and brown stained fingers, I think I never want another cherry again (at least for a whole week). The kids love it though. They get a snack right off the ground whenever we go outside. Fox has cherry stains on every single shirt he owns!

On Thursday I promised to take the kids to the Schonbrunn kids museum but when we got there we found out that it is only open to the public on Saturdays. The kids were pretty bummed but luckily there are a million other fun things to do out there. We took the Schonbrun train that takes you all around the grounds to the palace. It took about an hour and the kids LOVED it of course.

Eden wanted to check out the desert house. Watch out Fox!

The desert plants were incredible to look at.

After that we went to do a tour of palace, but, since it costs like a thousand dollars and the kids would be bored anyway, we decided to do just the apple struedel demonstration. Apparently, their recipe is 400 years old and it's one of the most popular deserts in Austria. It was super cool to watch them make it and I was surprised that it held the kid's attention (although the free sample helped occupy them a bit...).

See for yourself!
