On Saturday we took a trip to the Alps. After a beautiful train ride, we arrived in Reichenau. We had an hour to kill in this little town before the bus came so we took a stroll around. All of the houses were like this one- gorgeous, unique, lots of attention to details and trimming. Everyone had roses blooming in their gardens and fruit trees in their yards.
Not far from the station was this little bridge into the main square. Can you see the viaducts in the background and the Alps in the distance?
And of course there was a little playground nearby.
We took a hanging cable car up to the top of the mountain. The kids really liked it. I have to admit I was a little bit frightened. Picture being crammed into a box with what you imagine is enough people to exceed the weight limit and swaying back and forth, dangling over a mountain slope, as it slowly climbs 1600m. You can see how far you would fall through the cracks in the floor.
But of course we made it safe and sound and the view from up top was amazing.

Eden spent the entire hike collecting wild flowers, of which there was an abundance on the mountain of all colors and varieties. I wish we had brought a book with us and some tape so that she could take a proper collection.
And Fox collected only dandelions, the bigger the better. When I took this picture he said he needed a rest and layed down to count his flowers.

We were a little afraid of what to expect on this hiking trip (since our last one we took Fox on ended in a trip to the emergency room), but were pleasantly surprised to find the paths very wide and free of the dangers of close drop-offs...that is, until we got to the lookouts. It was a little nerveracking for the kids to be this close to the edge. We just held Fox in our death grips.

Eden's finished bouquet. She was seriously proud of this and I must say that it was quite beautiful.

At the end of the hike we did there was this little restaurant. It was a bit chilly up there and we weren't really prepared. Luckily we had packed little sweaters for the kids and I happened to have a scarf. We stopped in and ordered the most expensive hot cocoa I've ever had and enjoyed it to the last drop.

It was a fun day--a little exhausting for the kids, but totally worth it.
