Andrew only had to work a half day yesterday since it was an Austrian public holiday. We were so excited to get to spend some extra time with him. It was a gorgeous summer day in Vienna so, naturally, we went to the pool! Globe Museum! If your husband is as obsessed with maps and globes as mine is then this might be the coolest place in Vienna. As it turns out, they have the only globe museum in the world. I must say though, even for someone who does not get all tingly looking at drawings of the earth, it was pretty cool.
Hey, what dummy took this crooked picture?
These two globes were from the 1400's! Since you couldn't touch them they had this interactive so that you could view it from all angles. It's interesting to see what impressions they had at that time of what the boundaries of the continents were. Africa went all the way down into Antartica (which, by the way, was depicted as 2x its actual size) and several major land masses and islands were completely excluded.
While looking at this little globe cut open, I heard Eden say to herself, "Huh, so that's what the center of the earth looks like."
After the globe museum, we headed to a nice restaurant downtown.
