Well, in dog years that is. For those of you who can't do the math, Bela turned 9 last week. His face is graying quite a bit now, the vet says he's beginning his "senior" dog visits, and his eyesight is waning. You would never know by the way he acts. While inside he's very ruglike in demeanor (and appearance), outside he's quite a spry guy. The last couple of years we've gotten the kids involved in celebrating his birthday. Here Eden is cleaning him up for the celebration. Don't mind that pathetic look on his face, he's just a little embarrassed by the bath photo.
This year we made a cake. A real one, for dogs. It had lots of yummy ingredients: carrots, peanut butter, honey. Then we mixed them all together and baked it and made him eat it. It actually didn't taste that bad. Mostly it didn't really taste like anything, except peanut butter...and oil. The kids had fun making it though.
Here is the rub down portion of the festivities and I bet if Bela could talk, he would say it was his favorite part.

Annual eating contest. Bela won...again.
Every dog has his day and I think Bela felt pretty doggone special on his birthday.
