THIS IS HALLOWEEN!!!

I have so much to do to catch up with our blog, BUT I'm going to zip ahead to now so you don't end up waiting until Thanksgiving to see Halloween costumes. (Psst! Mom and Dad! I need pictures from your visit. I only took ONE!).

We had our trunk or treat Saturday night at church. It was SNOWING, so we had it in indoors. But given the theme of Eden and Fox's costumes, it was apporpriate, if unexpected weather. Eden decided last Halloween that she was going to be Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas. And she eventually talked Fox into being Jack. But at the last minute, Fox changed his mind. We watched the movie last week and Fox fell in love with the werewolf (because he has a gruff voice and howls at the moon). So here they are: Fox is a werewolf; Eden is Sally; Bela is a lion again:

I MADE Eden's costume people! Like, I sewed it (uh..hem, three times). It was easy. All you have to do is start with a very limited knowledge of sewing, pair it with the wrong fabric and missize the dress. After several hours of yelling @#$%!!! and &@%#!!!, rip it up and start again in a couple of days. 100% cotton this time. Whew! It's a breeze, but this time you decide (against your husbands better judgement- what does HE know about sewing and fabric anyway??.....did I mention I don't sew?) to use iron on adhesive for all the patches. It looks great...until it dries. Then it will stand up on its own if you like. No one even needs to wear it. Who knew the stuff dried as hard as cardboard?? (besides Andrew...) After a few "I told you so"s (from Andrew) and some dirty looks (from me), I started again. Finally, after a few more hours of cutting and (this time) sewing patches on we have the finished product. So now you can understand my tasteless braggery right? It looks great- especially compared to the previous casualties.

I thought Fox's costume would be a breeze until I saw how expensive furry fabric is: $60 per yard! No joke. So, we went to the thrift store and found the most unusual plastic troll face with hair hanging down it. For $3 it was enough to make the costume. What do you think? Andrew did his and Eden's makeup. You can see the difference between Saturday night and Monday night. He had better makeup Monday to make Eden's stitches look finer. But Fox's "furry" face looked more like chocolate smudges both nights because he wouldn't stop rubbing it. He was cute though, he would scratch it and then panic that he had rubbed off all his makeup. We had to assure him that he still looked like a werewolf.

Here are a few videos. The first one cracked Andrew up. It was Saturday night--we dressed Fox up right after his nap and he was in a total daze. Notice how his expression doesn't change while Eden tries to sing and his fur is blown by the heater.

Here are the kids outside on Monday. Fox was a bit more alert.

And here they are trick or treating with the neighborhood kids.

And now for your moment of zen...

Our neighbor Wes...the nicest guy...carved a "rocket ship" jack-o-lantern for Fox. But is "rocket ship" the first thing that comes to your mind?

You did such a great job! I know how you feel because I just had a fight with my sewing machine and it won. I miss your kids. Love the video of Foxy's dazed expression.
